Ofcom's Voluntary Code Of Practice for Broadband Speeds FAQs

What is the Ofcom Code of Practice?

It is a voluntary code that all broadband providers have agreed to adhere to when signing up new customers. The code will ensure that all customers have an accurate view of their expected Broadband speeds once their service goes live.

What information will I receive as a result of the Ofcom Code of Practice?

If you're a Virgin Media National customer, you'll be given an estimate of the broadband speed that your line can support, a simple explanation as to why broadband speeds can vary at different times of the day, our traffic management and fair usage policies.

What does the Ofcom Code of Practice mean for me as a customer?

It means that customers can make informed decisions on which service to purchase based on accurate information for your individual line from each provider. It also means that if an ADSL Service Provider estimates a speed at time of sale that is significantly higher than you actually receive then the service provider must try to fix your line to reach the estimated speeds or let you leave your contract if you are within the first three months.
