Can I use my existing (dial up) account in between registration and activation?
The following information is for specific to the Thompson SpeedTouch USB range of modems. On your Thompson SpeedTouch 330 USB modem you will have 2 bi-coloured LEDs which indicate what the modem is currently doing. On the left is the USB LED and the right is the ADSL LED.
When troubleshooting the modem, these LEDs can give a good overview of any problem. Please see below for a full break down of the possible LED status and it’s meaning:
| USB (left light) - constant green |
The modem has been successful in making a connection to the computer. |
| USB (left light) - flashing red |
The modem is powered by the computer, but there is a problem with the computer detecting it. |
| USB (left light) - flashing green |
Data is being transmitted. |
| ADSL (right light) - flashing green |
Data is being received. |
| ADSL (right light) - flashing green and occasionally red |
The modem has lost synchronisation with the exchange. |
| ADSL (right light) - flashing yellow |
The modem is attempting to synchronise with the exchange. |
| ADSL (right light) - constant green |
The modem is synchronised with the exchange. |
| ADSL (right light) - off |
The modem has not synchronised with the exchange. |
When using the Broadband connection the LED’s will flash to indicate traffic, one LED shows downstream the other is upstream. If downloading fast or large files, the LED’s may go out. This is normal.
If both LEDs are amber, POST (Power On Self Test has failed). Check all physical connections and possibly re-load drivers.
If the USB LED is solid/flashing red, your USB port is congested meaning that two much traffic is passing though it. Avoid this by not using multiple high-speed USB devices (e.g. scanners, speakers, printers etc.. under heavy load (e.g. a large data download).
If no LED lights are on when using a portable computer in battery mode, it is possible that the computers USB port is not powered. Refer to the computers user guide for more information.
If no LED lights are on when using a desktop PC, check that the SpeedTouch USB 330 is not connected to a low-powered USB hub. Refer to the PC’s User Guide for more information.
