This section will show you how to find out
your IP address for your current connection.
When you connect to Virgin Media your computer is given an
IP address. This is used to identify your computer on the Internet. Your IP
address helps your computer communicate with the rest of the world, retrieve
mail and view web pages.
Below are instructions on how to find your IP address while
connected to the Internet.
Windows 95,98, ME:
- Click once on the 'Start' menu, using
the left hand mouse button and then
click on 'Run...'.
- Type winipcfg.exe and click on the
'OK' button.
- You will now be presented with an 'IP
Configuration' window.
- Make
sure you have the 'PPP Adapter.' selected in the list.
- You will now see
your IP address.
Windows NT, 2000, XP:
- Click on the 'Start' menu, and then
click on 'Run...'.
- Now type cmd and click on the 'OK'
button.
- Now type ipconfig and press the enter
key on your keyboard.
- You should now see the PPP Adapter and your current IP
address.
- If not you can type ipconfig /all and press
the enter key.
- This will display all adapter
information.
- The format of the IP address is always
numbers separated by dots. In the example above the IP address is
62.255.48.206.
You now have your IP address. This address will
change each time you connect to the Internet.
