Choosing and installing an anti-virus program |
The best way to protect your PC against viruses is to install an anti-virus program. This program, when installed on your PC, will scan files as they are opened and will check the file for viruses. If the file is found to contain a virus, the anti-virus program will usually ask you if you would like to 'Quarantine' the file, 'Clean' (or remove) the virus from the file or, if the clean fails, delete the file completely.
There are a number of free trial anti-virus programs available on the Internet these can be found at the following locations.
PC-Cillin GriSoft AVG F-Prot Anti-Virus Due to the differences between the various packages listed we are unable to provide full installation instructions here. You are encouraged to read all help files and Readme.txt files before installing them on your PC. As well as the free anti-virus programs available there are also a number of excellent commercial products that can be bought at a reasonable price and offer support and regular updates to the virus list and to the software itself.
